Duties

  • Works with parents on intervention/prevention strategies.
  • Establishes behavior contracts with students.
  • Gathers input and leads and/or participates in Eligibility Reviews and Individualized Education Plans.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits and resources provided by the District.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation at the request of the Administration.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and report to the appropriate administrator information about individual student compliance with school and district behavioral expectations, and state and federal laws.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the District’s philosophy of educational and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and responsible precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Attends and participates in meetings involving the faculty and other participants that are of reasonable length and address a relevant educational topic as a legitimate function and obligation of professional educators.
  • Participation in grade level and/or Problem Solving Teams as appropriate.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Cooperates in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher education.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by administration pertaining to aforementioned position.

Qualifications

Valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License required.

Learning Behavior Specialist I Pre-K through Age 22 Endorsement.

1 year experience in behavioral classrooms preferred.

Salary/Benefits

Salary and Benefits will be per the Professional Negotiated Agreement.
