Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in screening, selecting, assigning, supervising and evaluating of certified and educational support staff.
  • Provide leadership and coordinate the work of specialized group of educators (school nurses, psychologists, social workers, speech clinicians, etc.).
  • Develop master schedules and calendars, which maximize the achievement of program objectives, and provide leadership with the annual registration process.
  • Supervise and manage building operations to assure safety and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Student Services to facilitate special education and other student services in the building.
  • Supervise the Guidance and Counseling Office and the registrar, including maintenance of student records.
  • Supervise the operation of the procedures for all substitute teachers in the building.
  • Supervise the operations and performance of educational support personnel, including maintenance, security, and paraprofessionals
  • Supervise the investigation of all disturbances and emergencies and conduct fire and tornado/disaster drills including the completion of appropriate reports.
  • Supervise all aspects of the co-curricular program, including sports, clubs and activities.
  • Serve as the Principal for the summer school program.
  • Facilitate the communication, record keeping, and follow-up of student attendance concerns with appropriate District administrators
  • Serve as the building Homeless Liaison.
  • Coordinate and organize student activities and special events related to school climate, student recognition and graduation, and oversee the development of the yearly activities calendar.
  • Coordinate activity field trips including transportation, giving approval for such trips, notifying the faculty of students going on the trip, placing the trip on the master calendar and arranging for substitutes.
  • Coordinate all transportation needs of the school in cooperation with the Director of Transportation.
  • Coordinate the assignment of student teachers within the building, including orientation of the student teachers, working with supervising teachers, university supervisors and Human Resources.
  • Organize and supervise the procurement, issuance, maintenance, collection and storage of instructional materials; supervise the collection of all student fees, fines and other obligations; and maintain accurate student records.
  • Gather and compile data to assist with the preparation of state reports as assigned.
  • Schedule all building usage, including after school programs.
  • Assist in the budget planning process at the building level.
  • Participate in school improvement planning and implementation, including the gathering, analysis and use of student data with building teams.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise building operations as assigned by the Principal (including cleaning, maintenance, lunchroom, co-curricular program, food service, and building usage).
  • Serve as the Building Principal in the absence of the Principal.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree, from an accredited college or university, with training in administration and supervision
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Appropriate Illinois credentials to evaluate certified staff 
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement (ie: Principal, Superintendent, etc.)
  • Five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level
  • Previous successful leadership/supervisory experience at the middle school level, preferred

  • An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a student focused continuous improvement model.
  • Evidence of relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of regular engagement in and desire to continue professional learning, implementation, and reflection in the areas of curriculum, adolescent development, equitable practices, and instructional methods at the middle school.
  • Knowledgeable of District policies, Local policies, State and Federal laws relating to students.
  • Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy. 
  • Understand the underlying philosophy for a middle school that matches the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of pre-adolescents.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Experience with integration of instructional technology to enhance delivery and learning
  • Demonstrated use of strategies for ensuring equitable practices in a diverse learning environment
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with a record of building relationships that foster collegial trust, promote teacher efficacy, aspire to high expectations and accountability, and maintain a common instructional focus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the middle school level.
  • Serve as a role model for all students and perform their duties to create an environment that is conducive to providing students an enhanced and engaged learning opportunity.

Salary/Benefits

The work year for this position is 210 days. Salary and determined by the Superintendent based on experience and credentials. FLSA Exempt. Valley View offers excellent fringe benefits, including life, health, and dental insurance.
