Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Works with principals, superintendent, teachers, and others who will help implement the district technology plan. 
  2. Evaluates the overall technology plan for the district and makes appropriate recommendations. 
  3. Creates, maintains, and oversees integration of technology plan for the district. 
  4. Trains, instructs and supervises technology personnel in all aspects of their job duties. 
  5. Directs and assigns work schedules to all technology personnel in accordance with work loads and available staff. 
  6. Receives and maintains all technology related work orders and ensures that proper work orders are filled out, assigned to staff and ensures timely completion of all work orders. 
  7. Responsible for coordinating reporting of data to IWAS including, but not limited to  SIS, EIS.
  8. Serves as the immediate supervisor for all technology personnel.
  9. Implements and carries out all Board of Education technology policies and procedures, including but not limited to, monitoring, enforcing and investigating alleged student and/or employee violations of the District's Acceptable Use Policy. Will make recommendations to the Superintendent concerning the termination of district technology privileges when it is determined that a student and/or employee violated the Acceptable Use Policy. 

 

Support 

  1. Oversees the use and training of all technology systems for the district. 
  2. Assists faculty and staff in dealing with technical issues in order to maintain a positive attitude among educators about use of technologies and avoid frustrations and fear of technologies by those teachers unfamiliar with them. 
  3. Performs maintenance and trouble-shooting procedures on equipment for efficient use of maintenance funds. 
  4. Secures and files all the data for the State regarding enrollment, testing, and other student assessment.
  5. Provides support to administration with scheduling of students using the student management system. 
  6. Serves as a liaison with district technology vendors ensuring technical problems are resolved. 
  7. Supports school staff, serves as the district system manager, and provides training for instructional and administrative technology systems. 
  8. In cooperation with building principals, coordinates the use of district technology facilities for staff training and use by outside individuals, organizations and agencies. 
  9. Serves as a system contact for all technology-related communication. 
  10. Supervises and has full access to the system-wide e-mail and data, including all staff, administrative, and student accounts, student management, accounting, and cafeteria data. 
  11. Maintains full access to all student, employee and administrators' computers, data files and e-mail accounts. 
  12. Maintains a list of all user pass-words and controls the security and access level of all employees in regards to district e-mails, data files and systems. 
  13. Manages and has access to all district computers, data files and e-mail accounts for purposes of software and hardware upgrades and troubleshooting. 

 

Leadership 

  1. Takes a leadership role in developing and implementing the district plan for instructional use of technology; the implementation should include provisions for evaluation and periodic updating. 
  2. Provides leadership for short- and long-range planning for all technology initiatives: vision, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, infrastructure, staffing, training, evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with others. 
  3. Works with administration and faculty to write grants for implementation of technology related educational programs. 
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of computers and related technologies as they apply to Pre K- 12 education. 
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components of local and wide area networks, Internet, intranets, and distributed learning. 



Technical Competence 

  1. Remains technically competent. Continue to grow as a professional technology educator and as an educational leader. 
  2. Professionally active at regional or higher level meetings. Subscribe to technology- oriented educational publications and schedule regular time to read them. Keep apprised of changes in the technologies available and directions of future technology development. 
  3. Coordinates use of technology with all school personnel. 
  4. Investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration. 
  5. Communicates with technology vendors. 
  6. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of school system staff. 
  7. Attends appropriate workshops and conferences to keep up to date on new trends in the field of technology. 
  8. Serves as a source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the district. 
  9. Reviews sales material and catalogs and confers with vendors regarding new technology. 
  10. Prepares and files ERATE forms to ensure the district receives the money available. 

 

Improve Education 

  1. Works to improve the overall quality of education received by students in the district. 
  2. Is sensitive to equity issues and works to resolve inequities. 
  3. Is an educational change agent. Participates in the development of curricular standards and benchmarks to encourage appropriate use of technology. 
  4. Works with educators to develop lesson plans and activities involving use of technology to further attainment of educational goals. 
  5. Informs teachers of new technologies or software which may assist in developing concepts of content specific materials. 
  6. Is aware of technology trends and possible futures of the field of computers in education. 
  7. Facilitates the development of technology surveys, scope & sequence. 
  8. Staff Development 
  9. Provides training to the administration, teachers, and support staff on the student management system. 
  10. Coordinates activities of outside vendors, consultants and trainers that support the needs of the staff. 
  11. Plans, develops, and implements staff development activities to meet established instructional technology integration needs and the needs of the support staff. 
  12. Collaborates with teachers in implementing technology into the curriculum. In partnership with teachers, the Director and teachers will work towards integrating computers in a relevant way that strengthens content, assists teachers in meeting state and national standards for content and technology. 
  13. Helps teaching staff in the integration of technology into their daily lesson plans. 
  14. Instructs staff through workshops in the care and upkeep of technology equipment and the use of new software. 

 

Hardware and Software Acquisition 

  1. Helps the district to develop and implement plans for the acquisition and maintenance of hardware and software. 
  2. Orders, updates, and maintains software and hardware. 
  3. Assists with the planning, design and installation of future network expansions as growth demands. 
  4. Maintains an accurate inventory of computer hardware and software that belongs to the district and to individual schools in the district. 
  5. Ensures compliance with all state and federal licensing requirements for curriculum software. 
  6. Participates in District Leadership Team meetings
  7. Oversees revisions and maintenance of the district web site. 

 

All other duties related to the position as assigned by the superintendent.

 

Qualifications

  1. Director shall have a background and experience with operating systems such as MacOS, Windows, Google as well as related applications. 
  2. Experience in a PreK-12 setting
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with staff and student
  4. ISBE Technology Specialist endorsement preferred
