Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with principals, superintendent, teachers, and others who will help implement the district technology plan.
- Evaluates the overall technology plan for the district and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Creates, maintains, and oversees integration of technology plan for the district.
- Trains, instructs and supervises technology personnel in all aspects of their job duties.
- Directs and assigns work schedules to all technology personnel in accordance with work loads and available staff.
- Receives and maintains all technology related work orders and ensures that proper work orders are filled out, assigned to staff and ensures timely completion of all work orders.
- Responsible for coordinating reporting of data to IWAS including, but not limited to SIS, EIS.
- Serves as the immediate supervisor for all technology personnel.
- Implements and carries out all Board of Education technology policies and procedures, including but not limited to, monitoring, enforcing and investigating alleged student and/or employee violations of the District's Acceptable Use Policy. Will make recommendations to the Superintendent concerning the termination of district technology privileges when it is determined that a student and/or employee violated the Acceptable Use Policy.
Support
- Oversees the use and training of all technology systems for the district.
- Assists faculty and staff in dealing with technical issues in order to maintain a positive attitude among educators about use of technologies and avoid frustrations and fear of technologies by those teachers unfamiliar with them.
- Performs maintenance and trouble-shooting procedures on equipment for efficient use of maintenance funds.
- Secures and files all the data for the State regarding enrollment, testing, and other student assessment.
- Provides support to administration with scheduling of students using the student management system.
- Serves as a liaison with district technology vendors ensuring technical problems are resolved.
- Supports school staff, serves as the district system manager, and provides training for instructional and administrative technology systems.
- In cooperation with building principals, coordinates the use of district technology facilities for staff training and use by outside individuals, organizations and agencies.
- Serves as a system contact for all technology-related communication.
- Supervises and has full access to the system-wide e-mail and data, including all staff, administrative, and student accounts, student management, accounting, and cafeteria data.
- Maintains full access to all student, employee and administrators' computers, data files and e-mail accounts.
- Maintains a list of all user pass-words and controls the security and access level of all employees in regards to district e-mails, data files and systems.
- Manages and has access to all district computers, data files and e-mail accounts for purposes of software and hardware upgrades and troubleshooting.
Leadership
- Takes a leadership role in developing and implementing the district plan for instructional use of technology; the implementation should include provisions for evaluation and periodic updating.
- Provides leadership for short- and long-range planning for all technology initiatives: vision, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, infrastructure, staffing, training, evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with others.
- Works with administration and faculty to write grants for implementation of technology related educational programs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of computers and related technologies as they apply to Pre K- 12 education.
- Demonstrates knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components of local and wide area networks, Internet, intranets, and distributed learning.
Technical Competence
- Remains technically competent. Continue to grow as a professional technology educator and as an educational leader.
- Professionally active at regional or higher level meetings. Subscribe to technology- oriented educational publications and schedule regular time to read them. Keep apprised of changes in the technologies available and directions of future technology development.
- Coordinates use of technology with all school personnel.
- Investigates and disseminates information on best practices for technology integration.
- Communicates with technology vendors.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of school system staff.
- Attends appropriate workshops and conferences to keep up to date on new trends in the field of technology.
- Serves as a source of information on trends, research, applications, and effective practices related to technology use in the district.
- Reviews sales material and catalogs and confers with vendors regarding new technology.
- Prepares and files ERATE forms to ensure the district receives the money available.
Improve Education
- Works to improve the overall quality of education received by students in the district.
- Is sensitive to equity issues and works to resolve inequities.
- Is an educational change agent. Participates in the development of curricular standards and benchmarks to encourage appropriate use of technology.
- Works with educators to develop lesson plans and activities involving use of technology to further attainment of educational goals.
- Informs teachers of new technologies or software which may assist in developing concepts of content specific materials.
- Is aware of technology trends and possible futures of the field of computers in education.
- Facilitates the development of technology surveys, scope & sequence.
- Staff Development
- Provides training to the administration, teachers, and support staff on the student management system.
- Coordinates activities of outside vendors, consultants and trainers that support the needs of the staff.
- Plans, develops, and implements staff development activities to meet established instructional technology integration needs and the needs of the support staff.
- Collaborates with teachers in implementing technology into the curriculum. In partnership with teachers, the Director and teachers will work towards integrating computers in a relevant way that strengthens content, assists teachers in meeting state and national standards for content and technology.
- Helps teaching staff in the integration of technology into their daily lesson plans.
- Instructs staff through workshops in the care and upkeep of technology equipment and the use of new software.
Hardware and Software Acquisition
- Helps the district to develop and implement plans for the acquisition and maintenance of hardware and software.
- Orders, updates, and maintains software and hardware.
- Assists with the planning, design and installation of future network expansions as growth demands.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of computer hardware and software that belongs to the district and to individual schools in the district.
- Ensures compliance with all state and federal licensing requirements for curriculum software.
- Participates in District Leadership Team meetings
- Oversees revisions and maintenance of the district web site.
All other duties related to the position as assigned by the superintendent.
