Duties

Description: To aid students in the correction or elimination of speech, hearing, and/or language difficulties in order to further their total development.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Screen Pre-K – 8 for speech and language problems using an acceptable and proven method of testing.
  2. To organize a program that addresses local school speech-language goals.
  3. Work cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.
  4. Coordinate speech language services with student services provided by other school personnel.
  5. Maintain records of speech-language program and prepare periodic reports as required.
  6. Adhere to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards.
  7. Conduct speech and language screenings.
  8. Administer formal and informal (ongoing and curriculum based) assessments.
  9. Obtain additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech-language purposes.
  10. Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services.
  11. Provide appropriate information on an informal or formal basis regarding speech and language programs.
  12. Supervise undergraduate interns, paraprofessionals, volunteers and other professionals as appropriate.
  13. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of communicative disorders.
  14. Collaborate/consult with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders.
  15. Plan evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
  16. Use evidence-based methods and techniques appropriate to stated objectives
  17. Manage the facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology necessary to the delivery of services.
  18. Adjust intervention strategies based upon student performance.
  19. Promote effective interpersonal relations with students.
  20. Complete procedural documentation appropriately.
  21. Demonstrate knowledge and use of statewide testing procedures.
  22. Develops appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths and needs.
  23. Manages time effectively.
  24. Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language education.
  25. Provide consultation to parents, teacher and other appropriate school personnel.
  26. Participate in the MTSS/RtI and related work with the curriculum based team/problem solving team to identify classroom and individual supports for students.
  27. Complete appropriate Medicaid billing for students who are eligible.

Qualifications

Requirements include:

  • Masters in Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Disorders required
  • Standard Professional Educator License, with Speech Pathologist endorsement to meet state regulations, and other qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • ASHA Certified required
  • Preferred, one (1) year experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills required
