Duties

  • Plans and implements a range of teaching programs or courses of study. 
  • Provides a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards. 
  • Teaches an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level. 
  • Monitors, evaluates, and reports student progress in key learning areas. 
  • Implements strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. 
  • Maintains records of class attendance and records student progress in the school selected data tool. 
  • Implements effective student management consistent with the school handbook. 
  • Establishes an organized and welcoming classroom.  
  • Participates in professional learning activities to maintain teacher certification and expand personal growth in knowledge, skills, and practices. 
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students. 
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Remains available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned by the building administrators.

 

Qualifications

  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) in Secondary Education 
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
