Duties

  1. Provide band and music instruction to 4th-8th grade students at all schools in the district.
  2. Provide a safe learning environment for those students assigned to the teacher.
  3. Complete lesson plans as required by the district.
  4. Follow the teacher evaluation schedule and requirements.
  5. Share daily schedule will all administrators in by September 3rd and provide any updates as necessary.
  6. Attend to supervisory assignment(s) on a regular/as assigned basis.
  7. Conduct music classes as directed by building administration.
  8. Facilitate jazz band and wind ensemble lessons before and after school for 6th, 7th, & 8th Morning lessons will be 4 days a week, excluding Wednesdays, and after school lessons will be a minimum of 2 days a week, scheduled at the teacher’s discretion.
  9. Facilitate daily band lessons during the day for 4th & 5th
  10. The band teacher is expected to conduct 5 external (after 3pm or outside of school) concerts/events each year:
  • Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos (October)
  • Breakfast with Santa (December)
  • Feeder schools & Argo joint band concert (March)
  • Spring Concert— following Cinco de Mayo if held in the Graves gym (May)
  • Graduation (May)
  1. Building and district administration will support up to three (3) band field trips during the year to play or observe performances. All field trip preparatory guidelines must be observed. 
  2. Grow the music program through recruitment performances and assemblies.
  3. Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals and groups of educators, administrators, parents, students, and the general public.
  4. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals.
  5. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
  6. Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  7. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  8. Administers and analyzes standardized testing data and adjusts instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize probability of student success.
  9. All other duties that may be assigned by the district administration.

Qualifications

  • Valid K-9 State of Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with required content endorsements
  • Must meet the “highly qualified” criteria
  • Proven Experience in Band instruction and direction in the educational setting preferred
  • Ability to write reports and general correspondence.
  • Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals and groups of educators, administrators, parents, students, and the general public.
