Duties

JOB SUMMARY
Maximize the learning experience of students.  To provide teaching strategies and techniques that will enrich and expand the learning opportunity of children who are identified as gifted.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-  Creates meaningful learning experiences to address knowledge and skills within the curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
-  Provides instruction to students, empowering them to meet their individual academic and career goals.
-  Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs. 
-  Participates in conferences concerning needs of students.
-  Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.
-  Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
-  Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
-  Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
-  Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the building.
-  Collaborates with other professional staff members, especially within grade or subject level, maintaining a positive working relationship. 

-  Encourages students to become responsible, contributing members of the community promoting the ideals of democracy. 

- Assists in the annual identification of eligible students for the Gifted Program.

- Schedules students Places all eligible into the appropriate program/day.

- Schedule classes so that all identified students have a regular time to attend gifted classes

- Collaborate with Building Principals and the District Transportation Director to design seamless pick up and drop off at each school.  

- Provide leadership to the teachers, instructional coaches and specialist in the areas of compacting curriculum, developing tiered assignments, and facilitating the design of differentiated curriculum and instruction for Gifted and high achieving students

- Collaborate with classroom teachers, media/library specialist(s), and technology coordinator to offer a continuum of services that supports them in maximizing each child’s opportunities for challenge and growth

- Determine necessary materials needed to meet the requirements of the Gifted Proposal and request the order for purchase

- Teach the Gifted class of students which encompasses all the duties and responsibilities of a classroom teacher. (refer to PERA and Senate Bill 7)

- Provide professional development relative to the Gifted program for staff

- Create the classroom as a learning space to enhance a student-friendly environment

- Create an open line of communication with the parents of the identified students and host an Open House Welcome Event each year in the month of Aug/Sept.   

- Attend various school related events that support students and their families

- Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures

- Attend and present at meetings when necessary to provide supportive materials and information

- Follow all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the Gifted program

- Communicate Gifted initiatives, objectives and programs to the Administration, Staff and Community

- Assist in the program development of a Gifted Program, including the proposal to be reviewed/approved by the Superintendent and submitted for state approval.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
-  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/License:
- Illinois Professional Educators License with an endorsement in Gifted Education
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience

Salary/Benefits

Work Days: 183 days
Salary: 
Determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience.
Salary Schedule for 2024-2025 SY: Step 1 Salary Range: $43,750 - $52,750 (Bachelors - Masters+45)

Additional Notes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

-  Knowledge of instructional principles, theories, testing, methods for gifted students, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students.
-  Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
-  Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
-  Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students, especially in regards to gifted education, and Senate Bill 7 Illinois Learning Standards.

- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
-  Ability to organize and coordinate work.
-  Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues.
-  Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
-  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality in relation to students, parents and faculty.

- Ability to develop a positive relationship with administration, staff, students and parents
