A. Demonstrates social work ethics by focusing on the student, the right to self-determination of the student and family, and maintaining confidentiality.
B. Provides counseling services for students in a group and/or on an individual basis with priority given to students in special education.
C. Identifies student/family and/or staff concerns regarding social interactions in the educational setting and develops plans for immediate and/or future resolutions.
D. Provides assistance to students/staff regarding problem-solving strategies, conflict resolution/mediation, social skills and other prevention strategies.
E. Provides assistance to students who exhibit behavioral difficulties.
F. Works as a liaison with community agencies to bring services, traditional and non-traditional, to students/family/staff.
G. Demonstrates knowledge of various counseling techniques and appropriate communication skills.
H. Shows awareness and sensitivity to multicultural populations.
I. Consults with parents and staff as to the social and emotional development of children.
A. Completes necessary school and social work records.
B. Maintains documentation of progress of students and keeps teachers, parents/guardians informed.
C. Communicates between school and home those issues related to social work.
D. Coordinates building Wraparound plans for students/families.
E. Meets with parents/guardians during scheduled conferences and at other appropriate times.
F. Uses standard rules of spelling, punctuation and grammar in written and verbal communications.
A. Completes social-developmental studies and adaptive behavior assessments and submits accurate records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative guidelines.
B. Collaborates with other building staff to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students.
C. Participates in professional growth opportunities (e.g., attends regional, state, national professional conferences; reads professional publications) related to all areas of services.
D. Follows building and district rules and procedures in performing assigned responsibilities.


1. Holds a masters degree in School Social Work
2. Has approval or ability to secure approval from the School Service Personnel Division of the State Board of Education
3. Possesses good human relations skills


  • The salary for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Federation of Teachers, which includes a different level of compensation for positions designated as "hard to fill."  The full salary schedule and the Hard to Fill positions list are available on our website.  The District gives experienced teachers up to 21 years of experience credit for service outside the District.  New teachers may request up to $2,000 as a salary advance to help with relocation expenses or other needs.  100% of a teacher’s contributions to TRS are currently paid by the Board of Education.  The Board currently pays 100% of a teacher’s employee-only health, dental, and term life insurance.  There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance.  There are many opportunities for teachers to earn substantial additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer.
  • The District offers an additional $1,500 annual stipend for School Social Workers who are also Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
  • Individuals hired into a 1.0 FTE position in the CFT bargaining unit after October 1, 2023 are eligible for a $1,500 Sign-On Bonus.  Details can be found on the Human Resources page of our website.
