Duties

Reporting to the Director, provides support to ensure an inclusive learning environment for all children. Supervises staff; establishes policies and procedures related to ensuring student protection and handling complaints; provides communication between lawyers and the Agency's law department in establishing a safe learning environment for all students in Illinois.

  • Supports the Director in providing the necessary support to ensure that school districts document and implement policies and procedures that provide protection to each and every student. This work includes, but is not limited to, topics such as bullying, discipline supports and reduction, LGBTQ, restraint, isolation and seclusion.
  • Collaborates and supports the Director to establish and direct the complaint/notification/reporting process for violations related to the safety of Illinois students.
  • Ensures districts and the Illinois State Board of Education are complying with all rules and regulations as it relates to the reporting, investigation, and documenting of complaints. The complaint process shall include a reporting mechanism for students, parents, educators, and community members.
  • Supports the Director in providing the necessary resources to school districts which allow them to ensure each district is able to provide a safe learning environment for each student.
  • Ensures these resources are professional and compassionate when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Assists in mentoring and training new employees.
  • Plans, assigns/reassigns, prioritizes, and reviews work assignments.
  • Approves/denies use of benefit time.
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives.
  • Completes and signs performance evaluations.
  • Provides technical guidance and direction.
  • Counsels staff.
  • Presents documentation of just cause for disciplinary action to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Collaborates with external stakeholders to educate parents and communities on sensitive topics such as, but not limited to, bullying, discipline supports and reduction, LGBTQ, restraint, isolation and seclusion. This education should include rules, regulations, and expectations for students, parents, and districts.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to support parents and communities on sensitive topics such as, but not limited to, bullying, discipline supports and reduction, LGBTQ, restraint, isolation and seclusion. Qualifications

  • Juris doctorate, or, a Master's degree in a field of Education, Political Science, Public Administration, or Business Administration, or, a Bachelor's degree in one of the listed areas plus two years of relevant professional experience. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)???
  • Two years of experience (in addition to education requirements) in a public school district, Regional Office of Education, special education cooperative, area vocational center, State Education Agency, or other entity directly involved in public education. ???
  • Ability to address sensitive student issues in a professional and caring manner. ???
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute large-scale projects. ???
  • Strong communication and engagement skills. ???
  • ?Ability to lead others in developing a systemic approach to problem solving student needs and provide a safe environment. ???
