Duties

Instructional responsibilities:

  1. Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for reading services in individual, and/or small group settings.
  2. Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of Illinois Standards. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
  3. Uses a variety of reading materials to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  4. Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  1. Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data when
  2. requested.
  3. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities
  4. Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
  5. Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
  6. Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.
  1. Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues

Classroom responsibilities:

  1. Provides written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  2. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
  4. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  5. Conducts or participates in needed parent conferences and telephone conferences.

Assessment responsibilities:

  1. Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  2. Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.

Professional Development responsibilities:

  1. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
  2. Participates in discussions or activities focused on using research to improve reading.
  3. Participates in staff development focused on delivery of reading intervention and assessment.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Qualifications

Qualifications:   

  1. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on literacy instruction or curriculum development and be properly certified to meet Illinois Teaching License Standards
  2. A Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Reading Specialist Endorsement

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement
