Duties
Teach elementary PE for grades K-5.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences;
- Use individual and small/whole group activities to facilitate learning;
- Communicate with parents and school counselor on student progress;
- Implement and utilize formative assessment data to identify students’ strengths/weaknesses;
- Establish, communicate, and enforce rules/procedures for effective classroom management;
- Effectively use technology and resources in class;
- Demonstrate professional personal interactions with all students, parents, and staff;
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual/team sports;
- Promote an understanding of the relationship between healthy body functions and exercise;
- Teach skills needed to promote healthy habits and a healthy lifestyle;
- Motivate students to cultivate physical fitness into their everyday lives;
- Foster the development of healthy social and emotional mindsets;
- Work cooperatively with the other PE teacher to plan/implement a balanced PE program;
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement;
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with course standards;
- Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students;
- Maintain control/inventory of school property, equipment, and storage;
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems;
Qualifications
Applicants must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License to teach PE. Applicants with an elementary teaching certificate and willingness to obtain alternative certification are also encouraged to apply.
Salary/Benefits
Per the current CBA agreement; health insurance is covered for the employee at 90%, family coverage options are available at 70%; $25,000 life insurance
