Assistant Principal or Dean (& possible Athletic Director)

Duties

 Assistant Principal/Dean Responsibilities

  • Student Conduct & Discipline: Enforce student discipline policies and the Student Code of Conduct fairly and consistently; investigate and resolve disciplinary matters with a commitment to restorative practices.

  • Attendance Monitoring: Coordinate student attendance tracking systems, monitor truancy, and implement proactive interventions to maximize student engagement.

  • Instructional Leadership Support: Assist the building principal in daily school operations, master scheduling, and school improvement initiatives.

  • Staff Supervision: Support the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified educational support personnel as assigned.

  • School Safety & Climate: Maintain building safety and foster a positive school environment during arrival, dismissal, lunch, passing periods, and student assemblies.

  • Collaboration: Partner with MTSS, 504, and Special Education teams to support student academic and behavioral growth

Athletic Director Responsibilities

Please note: This position may be combined with Athletic Director duties depending on the qualifications, experience, and interests of the selected candidate. If athletic administration is included in the final contract, responsibilities will also encompass:

  • Program Oversight: Plan, organize, and supervise high school interscholastic athletic programs.

  • Scheduling & Logistics: Coordinate and schedule all athletic contests, secure qualified officials, and arrange student-athlete transportation for away games.

  • Event Management: Supervise home athletic events, ensuring proper game-day management, and staffing (ticket takers, scorekeepers, timers).

  • Personnel Management: Recruit, supervise, and evaluate the coaching staff in compliance with district goals.

  • Compliance: Ensure absolute compliance with all IHSA rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.

  • Financial Management: Oversee the athletic department budget, equipment purchasing, and coordination of athletic fundraisers.

  • Community Relations: Serve as the primary liaison between the school, athletic boosters, parents, and community stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative (K-12) or Principal Endorsement.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching or school leadership experience preferred.

  • Skills: Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple student-centered priorities under deadlines.

  • Evaluator Status: Teacher Evaluation Training (Modules 1-5) qualification preferred or a willingness to obtain.

  • Athletic Background: Previous coaching or athletic administrative experience is highly valued if combining the AD role.
