Duties

  • Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Develops capacity of individuals, teams, and whole staff to continuously improve.
  • Engages colleagues in individual, team, and school wide professional learning to address the learning needs of all students.
  • Models skillful and innovative instructional practices.
  • Develops own, individual, and team knowledge and skills to access, organize, and display team, grade level, department, and individual data.
  • Exhibits patience and perseverance to support colleagues through the change process.
  • Facilitates individual and team reflection on current practices compared to educator performance standards.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Teaching and Learning in the areas of Professional Development and District initiatives.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
  • Observes and models District policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  • Supervises the school’s educational program in conjunction with the Principal.
  • Assists in the development and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events, if applicable.
  • Works closely with 10-month Administrative Assistant to record student discipline and student attendance, correspond with students and parents, and complete reports pertaining to student discipline and attendance.
  • Works with the Principal to establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Assists with the planning and supervision of emergency drills and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  • Assists with newly assigned staff members and their development, as appropriate.
  • Coaches staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  • Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
  • Performs such tasks and assumes responsibilities as the Principal assigns.

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of public education, including experience as a classroom teacher; valid Type 75
Certification as an administrator; such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Additional Notes

Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal, K-8 serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, student conduct and attendance, and extracurricular programs, school plant operations, and the supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel.
