Duties

  • Receives and processes new books by typing and affixing appropriate categorical code.
  • Provides a library media program for students that is age appropriate and supplements the in classroom grade level work.
  • Will teaches classes, and assists staff in identifying and gathering reference materials related to subject matter in the curriculum.
  • Assists in shelving new books, types and files catalog cards, assists students with reference assignments. 
  • Files all library materials, sorts and places returned books to appropriate shelves. 
  • Assists students in locating books to students, types book orders, prepares inventory and circulation reports. 
  • Inspects returned books for damage and repairs books as necessary. 
  • Instruct students in library routines.
  • Provides instruction related support services under the direction of teachers. 
  • Provides support and assistance to the administration regarding the library, library purchasing, 
  • May assists in the supervision of students during visit to the library and may supervise lunchroom and playground activities in the library.
  • Participates and assists with the implementation of innovative education activities. 
  • Assists in the inventory, disbursement, and collection of textbooks and laptops for students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Duties

  • Collaborates with the principal, regular classroom teachers, and appropriate District support personnel to meet the goals of the District’s academic programs;
  • Helps evaluate, analyze, interpret and report data to the building principal and classroom teachers K-12 to improve student performance in interventions and reading;
  • Develops and communicates skill strategies for the improvement of reading and language arts instruction throughout the district or building workshops, study groups, and other means;
  • Assists the Curriculum Director, Administration, and other team members in the review development, and implementation of the reading and/or language arts curriculum and assessments aligned with the Common Core State Standards and research best instructional practices grades k-12;
  • Maintains own professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities in the areas of reading, language arts, & differentiation of instruction;
  • Coordinates with teachers and staff to provide parent involvement activities that will assist parents with reading strategies to help their child(ren) at home; 
  • Work directly with Tier 3 students using research based interventions agreed upon by the building Administration grades k-9, including inputting data and maintaining progress monitoring records in systems provided or approved by the school District.
  • Serves as the member of the Tier 3 data team.
  • Researches and provides content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching literacy – including: teaching strategies, assessment techniques and interpretation of assessment results
  • Researches and prepares materials for use by the district, departments, schools, and teachers – including: teaching strategies, assessment techniques and interpretation of assessment results, etc.;
  • Researches and provides information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative literacy practices through various activities such as: individual discussions (informal), cognitive coaching sessions, demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis, study groups, walk-throughs, staff meetings and grade level meetings, professional development programs and team teaching models;
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies;
  • Performs other tasks as identified by district administrators and/or building principals related to faculty “coaching,” modeling of classroom instruction, or improving instruction.

Qualifications

Certified LIS/Media Teacher, PEL endorsed for Library Information Specialist or Media Specialist, or willingness to participate in one or more workshops, professional development, or training events by the Illinois State Library or other professional library organization.

 

Preferred Qualifications Valid Illinois Professional License with a Reading Specialist Endorsement, Curriculum Specialist, or enrolled in a Master’s Level Academic Specialist Program and/or course work. Preferred experience in working with adult learners and adult learning pedagogy.

Salary/Benefits

Based on years experience, and the WAE contract.
