Duties

Job Summary:
The K-5 school counselor is committed to supporting students’ social-emotional needs and advocating for positive learning environments.  The school counselor engages in services to build and maintain positive mindsets and behaviors supporting social-emotional development, supporting students’ ability to manage the everyday demands of their lives. Direct services provided by the school counselor include classroom curriculum, group counseling, and individual counseling. Indirect services include collaborating or consulting with staff, families and/or communities. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a school counselor endorsement;  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development;
  • Ability to develop a counseling program that teaches students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for academic, career and social/emotional development;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills required.
  • Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled listener, problem-solver and relationship builder.
  • Ability to learn and utilize office equipment, computers, and software, especially as systems are updated;
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in compliance with all district, Board, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position;
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Salary/Benefits

 Salary and Benefits: 

  • Starting salary of $48,304; (Please click the link to view the current (Salary Schedule) Funded through School-Based Mental Health Service Provider Grant.
  • Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes a competitive benefits package;
  • Employee assistance program offered to employees and their immediate family members;
  • Qualified candidates may be granted up to eight years of verified full-time public school teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule;
  • We offer a mentoring program for teachers who are new to the District.
