Duties

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or an Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a School Support Personnel Endorsement in the area of School Counselor (formerly Guidance)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate the administration of Career and College interests through Big Future/College Board Account.
  • Prepare reports for the Administration as requested.
  • Data tracking for standardized testing.
  • Assist in the coordination of standardized testing
  • Maintain records for college acceptance, admissions, and scholarship offers
  • Conduct individual consultations with students and families – post secondary planning
  • Give presentations to students and community such as FAFSA and College and Career Planning
  • Give presentations to students from 6th-12th grade regarding study habits, organization, college, career, etc.
  • Provide orientation to incoming 9th grade students
  • Serve as liaison to local business partners and alumni for mentorship and internship opportunities.
  • Coordinate with alumni mentorship program.
  • Maintain and create monthly scholarship newsletter
  • Maintain summer internship opportunities, summer college programs, summer volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintain job/internship/college information boards
  • Outline a plan for students to pursue community services
  • Track and reports community service hours.
  • Maintain and create student transcripts.
  • Evaluate student transcripts to create schedules and individual learning plans.
  • Assist graduation committee
  • Present college and career opportunities in coordination with College Writing and Career Readiness
  • Coordinate Career night
  • Coordinate college representative visits to CPSA
  • Coordinate group visits to local college and university campuses
  • Coordinate career interest survey and planning
  • Give presentations on mock interviews and coordinate Mock Interviews with local university
  • Help students create cover letters, resumes, and LinkedIn accounts
  • Help students create college personal statements
  • Schedule college essay/personal statement workshops with local university
  • Write counselor letter of recommendations for entire senior class
  • Collaborate with Administration and Department Chairpersons to maintain career pathway documents
  • Empowers students to be effective users of information, ideas, and technology as it relates to College and Career Pathways and the college application process
  • Empower students to pursue their College and Career interests and pathways
  • Ensure equitable access to College and Career information and learning resources.
  • Collaborate with administration to design and implement presentations regarding College and Career planning, application processes, and financial aid
  • Maintains and updates College and Career resources
  • The College and Career Counselor will be responsible for several aspects of the Illinois PaCE Framework (Post-Secondary and Career Expectations) implementation.
  • Assist the building administrator and other personnel in evaluating student placement for the next school year.
  • Perform other professional duties as may be assigned by the building principal, vice-principal, and academic and curriculum coordinator.
  • Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program and plan the guidance program calendar.
  • Assist with the review of documents for registration and placement purposes.
  • Contribute to the solution of student issues such as truancy, failures, and disinterest in school, discipline issues, conflict resolution. The counselor is expected to seek out such students and provide appropriate guidance and counseling services.
  • Work with teachers and other school employees to help them understand and support students who are experiencing educational and emotional issues.
  • Establish a helping relationship with each counselee and provide individual counseling to students.
  • Work with parents/guardians of students individually or in a small group to help them: (a) understand the school; (b) cooperate with efforts to help the student; (c) understand the students school program, behavior issues, abilities, and goals; (d) provide information that may be of use to the school to help the student; (e) assist in the solution of problems that the student is experiencing.

Salary/Benefits

$40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
