PASS specialists teach PASS classroom expectations, PASS monitoring and reinforcement systems, social skills in the area(s) targeted by the student's BIP, and academic work provided by the mainstream teacher. This phase is brief and individualized. These services are provided in the PASS classroom. The program provides behavior support through functional behavior assessment and the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior intervention plans. The program is designed
to include social work services. 


Bachelor’s degree in related field

Valid Illinois certificate in appropriate area

Ability to work effectively between the school and community

Effective communication and consultation skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge of behavior strategies

Knowledge of special education law

CPI Certification (after employed)

Additional Notes

  1. Effectively manage student behavior of students assigned to the PASS program.
  2. Serve as a resource to the building in identifying and implementing effective research based behavior management strategies for students.
  3. Assist in the development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for students.
  4. Implement all elements of the PASS program to include orientation, re-orientation, student monitoring, student reinforcement and documentation.
  5. Attend staffings and 504 meetings for all students served in the PASS program.
  6. Provide instruction to students while in the PASS classroom for re-orientation.
  7. Maintain portfolios for all students served through the PASS program.
  8. Attend PASS teacher trainings as scheduled by the Department of Education.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of academic and behavior IEP’s.
  10. Provide on-going communication with parents of students utilizing PASS documentation forms.
  11. Utilize the PASS TRACKER program to chart and monitor student behavioral and submit reports to Building Administrators.
  12. Maintain classroom logs as documentation of students served in PASS classroom.
  13. Maintain monitoring sheets on all students served in PASS classroom.
  14. Provide leadership and direction to PASS paraprofessionals.
  15. Obtain and maintain certification in the CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  16. Provided technical assistance in behavioral intervention strategies to campus personnel for students not served in the PASS program.
  17. Provide training to campus personnel on the implementation of all elements of the PASS program as needed.
