Duties

Reporting to the Director, provides leadership and consultative services to regional systems for career and technical education; represents Illinois as the State Ag Advisor; provides federal and state grant/contract management; plans and coordinates professional learning for career and technical education with a focus on agriculture education.

  • Works primarily with agriculture education with an emphasis on integration and applications aligned to the Illinois learning standards, industry and technical skill standards.
  • Serves as the state ag advisor working with Agriculture Teachers Association and Agriculture Student Organization and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization.
  • Provides leadership on agriculture education.
  • Represents the state at local, regional, state and national conferences and meetings, specifically FFA, Illinois Committee for Agriculture Education (ICAE), Postsecondary Agriculture Students (PAS), and Illinois and National Associations of Vocational Agriculture Teachers.
  • Administers incentive agriculture grants and state leadership grants for agriculture.
  • Serves as point of contact for the U.S. Department of Education for agriculture education.
  • Provides communication with stakeholders.
  • Works with business and industry and other external stakeholders.
  • Coordinates state annual reports.
  • Provides technical assistance and other support services to regional systems, administrative and instructional personnel.
  • Monitors and evaluates career and technical education programs and grants through onsite visit and regular communication.
  • Provides leadership and consultative services to local and regional personnel for the development of innovative practices leading to school reform.
  • Collaboratively reviews policies, procedures, rules, and legislation to ensure program compliance and improve overall effectiveness of programming in order to improve outcomes for students, particularly in agriculture education and career and technical education.
  • Participates in agency training and professional development activities to improve support to educators.
  • Facilitates data collection, compilation, and analysis for reporting.
  • Provides assistance implementing data driven strategic planning, continuous improvement plans/models, monitoring and evaluation which improve outcomes for students in agriculture education and career and technical education.
  • Works collaboratively within department and cross-functionally to develop, implement, manage, and monitor state and federal grant programs.
  • Reviews grantee budgets for programmatic and fiscal compliance.
  • Provides leadership, expertise, and support within the department, cross departmental, and externally in support of middle and secondary school transformation.
  • Provides leadership, expertise, and support within ISBE and other educational agencies as it pertains to creation, establishment, and review of materials/resources and instructional support services within career and technical education, the Illinois learning standards, and competency based education.
  • Advocates for equity in programming which supports all students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or, a Bachelor's degree with two years of experience in agriculture education. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Illinois Professional Educator License or CTE with stipulations in agriculture.
  • Two years of teaching experience (in addition to education requirements) in agriculture education and/or administrative experience in agriculture education at the K-12 level and/or postsecondary level.
  • Career and technical education experience.
  • Experience working with agri-business and industry required.
  • Knowledge of agriculture education.
  • Ability to work in teams and communicate effectively verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to provide professional learning to agriculture stakeholders.
  • Travel required.
