Duties

Primary Function (Job Goal)

To assist in establishing a well-organized, smoothly functioning educational environment in which students with and without disabilities can take full advantage of the instructional program, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities and other District resources.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Certified/Licensed in at least one of the following fields is required.

  • HVAC
  • Electric
  • Plumbing
  • Boilers

 

  • Complete knowledge in HVAC/Refrigeration Systems, including DDC (Direct Digital Controls).
  • Carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills.
  • Knowledge in chillers, pumps, motors, air handling units, compressors and rooftop units.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and work methods.
  • Ability to learn maintenance procedures, methods and schedules.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with others on a “team” to complete work assigned, as needed.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to perform all phases of building maintenance.
  • Ability to use common sense when handling materials and making repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

 

  • Valid Illinois driver’s license required. Employee must maintain insurability at the District’s standard rate during the term of employment.
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including tuberculosis clearance.
  • Pass a Regional Office of Education Fingerprint/Background Clearance including Federal Bureau of Investigation    

 
Physical Requirements

  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy lifting (up to 90lbs.), bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, or sitting.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and maintain mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work on uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work off one.
  • Capacity to operate mechanical equipment.
  • Visual capacity to review written documentation and blueprints.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions in the English language.

  • This position will require periodic change of assignment location to the various district facilities/ground based on work requirements    
  • Must be available for and respond to after hour call outs to address emergencies/repairs.
  • Continually uses safety practices and work methods.
  • Demonstrates willingness and commitment to learning maintenance procedures, methods and schedules.
  • Works cooperatively with others on a “team” to complete work assigned, as needed.
  • Works independently with limited supervision.
  • Performs all phases of building maintenance.

  • Understands and follows oral and written directions.
  • Performs routine/preventive and scheduled maintenance on all mechanical equipment in the district, including HVAC motors, compressors and pumps.
  • Maintains inventory of maintenance supplies.
  • Keeps a daily checklist of repairs, preventive, scheduled and routine maintenance.
  • Keeps the Director of Facilities & Operations updated on a daily basis regarding work status and planned repairs.
  • Informs the Director of Facilities & Operations of any emergency issues/situations immediately.
  • Assures efficient operation of all facilities mechanical equipment.
  • Reports damage or unsafe conditions to assigned supervisor.
  • Removes snow and ice off of sidewalks, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary/Benefits

Term of Employment
246 days; 8.0 hours per day
15 paid holidays
Completion of mandated training through Global Compliance Network within first 45 days of employment    
FLSA Non-Exempt
Pension: IMRF

Starting Rate: $25.17 per hour
