Duties

Nexus - Indian Oaks Family Healing is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit network of mental health agencies with over 45 years of restoring hope for thousands of children and families through outpatient/community mental health services, foster care and adoption, and residential treatment. Safe Harbor School is our very own private school. Safe Harbor School is the on-campus, non-public school that serves youth receiving treatment at Nexus- Indian Oaks. Safe Harbor School serve grade level 6 - 12, and students participate in a curriculum that is tailored to their unique needs and current grade level. The school provides an education curriculum that is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. Credits transfer to any school upon the client’s discharge.

Nexus- Indian Oaks Family Healing is looking for a skilled special education teacher to join our Safe Harbor School. In this position you will have the opportunity to assist our youth and help them navigate through their treatment plans and individual IEP's.

Expected Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational assistance to clients within a classroom setting.
  • Provide client supervision and mentorship.
  • Ensure student resident safety and collaborate with co-workers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean and safe.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required by Nexus. Understand and support the Nexus philosophy and treatment modalities.
  • Uphold Nexus policy and procedures regarding student resident confidentiality.
  • Perform other responsibilities, tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education, Credentials and Experience:

  • Must meet all criteria for an approved Paraprofessional Certification, or equivalent, as set forth by the state in which performing Teaching Assistant duties.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to assist in physical interventions and restraints of student residents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours).
  • Ability to twist, bend, and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential school setting.

Salary/Benefits

Compensation: This position pays $15.23 per hour.
