Duties

This position would service various elementary school within the district. 

 

Position definition: Using considerable discretion and independent judgment, the individual in this position oversees the IEP team of education services professionals to deliver a wide range of education services to all employees working at the assigned levels in Community Unit School District 300. The individual in this position functions as a resource for administrators, focusing on the administrators and staff assigned to assigned levels of schools throughout the District and proactively partners to resolve various problems and issues facing the District. Additionally, the individual in this position oversees the delivery of instruction and identified programming based on individual student needs.

 

• Assist building level administration with staff hiring, evaluation and discipline of special education staff
• Attend and participate in variety of department and district level meetings and committee
• Implement and evaluate assistive technology needs for individual students and programs
• Consult and relay information to district staff and parents regarding reasonable accommodations and behavior management, strategies within the special education and general education settings
• Facilitate IEP meetings as needed at early childhood 
• Plan, prepare and conduct professional development for certified and non-certified staff at the direction of the Chief of Education Services 
• Complete required Special Education State reporting for early childhood 
• Collect and analyze data for student achievement and program effectiveness
• Communication of important issues with the Directors and Assistant Superintendent
• Research and design solutions to various Education Service challenges confronting the District and staff
• Establish and maintain effective school, community and family partnership
• Other duties as assigned by Chief of Education Services 

Qualifications

Education

• Valid Illinois Professional Education License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement through ISBE
• A Bachelor's Degree in special education or a related field.
• Minimum of five years teaching and/or administrative experiences
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 
Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of the best practices for related services  and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of evaluation techniques and best practices for related services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of all applicable Federal and State Special Education Compliance and ability to apply said knowledge
• Thorough knowledge of RtI/PBIS process and continuum of services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of differentiated instructional methods for academics and life skills as it applies to related services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of transition services and program as it pertains to related services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of related services and how this impacts education as it pertains to low incidence disabilities and ability to apply said knowledge.
• Extensive knowledge of maladaptive behavior strategies for related services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of social skill needs for students and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of embedding motor/sensory/language strategies for students with low incident disabilities and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge with augmentative communication devices and strategies and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of pragmatic language and ability to apply said knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of all disabilities and the connection to related services and ability to apply said knowledge
• Thorough knowledge of District 300 labor agreements, Administrative Regulations and Board Policies and ability to apply said knowledge
