Duties
To provide each student, through safe and efficient transportation, opportunities to take advantage of the full range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district.
Communication
- Collaborates with and advises the superintendent on road hazards for decisions on school closings, delays, or early dismissals during inclement weather.
- Communicates and collaborates with the superintendent and principals on all transportation needs of the district.
- Coordinate with building secretaries and principals on registration information.
- Submits all reports required by the State or district office.
- Responds appropriately to requests for information.
Transportation-related Duties
- Complies with all State laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- Maintains safety standards in compliance with State and insurance regulations.
- Develops a program of preventive safety.
- Schedule bus evacuation drills with each school at beginning of the new school year.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, making recommendations to the superintendent on their employment.
- Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
- Coordinate the repair work on all buses and vehicles owned by the district.
- Monitor and operate the transportation communication system.
- Prepare and oversee the bus routes for all schools in the district and keep lists up-to-date.
- Schedule vans and activity bus for staff and coaches. Have the vehicles fueled and ready when needed.
- Perform weekly checks to ensure that bus video monitoring equipment is functioning properly.
- Monitor the bus videos and communicate with building principals for disciplinary issues, as needed.
- Coordinate school calendars with all schools to which the district transports.
- Schedule substitute drivers when regular drivers are unable to drive.
- Have the buses cleaned and waxed during the summer.
- Take buses to be tested, as needed.
- Pick up pre-trip forms daily. Communicate bus maintenance needs to maintenance personnel.
- Pick up mileage forms from buses each month and give Pre-K and special education mileage to district office for State reporting.
- If driver shortage arises, the Transportation Director will be required to drive a route.
Salary/Benefits
$20 per hour, with future increases to be determined by the Board of Education on an annual basis. $650 paid toward health insurance coverage. 10 Sick Days and 2 Personal Days.
Additional Notes
200 days, as determined by the Superintendent.
