Duties

The employee in this position must provide innovative teaching in working with students that demonstrate academic needs that impacts their ability to access the curriculum without support.   The candidate must have experience in managing a caseload as well as developing and monitoring IEP progress. In addition, the candidate should be familiar with adapting curriculum to meet student needs while meeting the Common Core Standards. Ideal candidates will also possess experiences in working with populations of students that require a great deal of individual support in the area of executive functioning.  This program is currently seeking highly skilled teachers that ensure the curriculum remains rigorous and meets with all expectations for graduation requirements.

Essential Duties:  (Other duties may be assigned.)

  1. Ability to create, write, monitor and facilitate IEPs for students on caseload. Actively participate in IEP meetings for students assigned to the caseload.  
  2. Participate in parent meetings outside of the IEP to support student needs.
  3. Prepare materials and plan daily instruction appropriate to each assigned class.
  4. Establish reasonable expectations and keep detailed records for oral and written work and explain grading procedures.
  5. Maintain desirable discipline standards in the classroom and assist, when needed, in other school areas with student disciplinary management.
  6. Perform those duties relative to pupil accounting assigned by the Administration including the recording of attendance, evaluative data, etc.
  7. Establish and post a schedule of times for helping students who need individual assistance.
  8. Develop and administer appropriate tests and report performance to parents, dean/counselors, and students.
  9. Understand and explain special emergency procedures to students and supervise students during situations calling for them.
  10. Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, and Support Team in understanding the needs of students and counseling students. Effectively supervise and include paraprofessionals in supporting the academic and social emotional needs of students.  
  11. Be sensitive to physical and learning styles of students with respect to their identified disabilities.  
  12. Promote student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.
  13. Recognize safety and health hazards and work to eliminate them.
  14. Attend department meetings
  15. Work with the Executive Director for Pupil and Personnel Services, Special Education Divisional Director, and other staff members in curriculum development.
  16. Maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
  17. Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
  18. Communicate openly with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders regarding student’s achievement and progress in the classroom.
  19. Commit to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.

 

Qualifications

 

  1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS 1 Certification. 
  2. Endorsement in Science or Math preferred
  3. Minimum 3 years’ experience in working with students with emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
  4. Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  5. Knowledgeable about the IDEA and the laws that govern working with students with disabilities.


Certification, Licensure, Training:  
Applicants must complete all requirements of this job as stated with the regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education (http://www.isbe.net) and policies of the Oak Park & River Forest School District 200 Board of Education.

Salary/Benefits

Salary:                                    Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement for 0.6 FTE (range between BA, Step 1 and MA+60, Step 5 depending on education and experience) plus $100/day for substitute teaching
FLSA Status:                          Exempt      

Additional Notes

Terms and Conditions:         ASAP for remainder of school year.  Full time position - .6 Special Education Teacher, .4 substitute teacher.
