Duties

  • Follow written plans and certified staff direction, seeking clarification as needed
  • Use instructional time effectively
  • Use instructional strategies and materials as determined by the instructional team
  • Re-teach and reinforce essential concepts and content across the curriculum
  • Prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning
  • Use a variety of positive behavioral supports
  • Provide least intrusive level of support based on the demands of the learning environment
  • Use routines and procedures to facilitate transitions
  • Adapt physical environment to provide optimal learning opportunities
  • Implement individualized reinforcement systems
  • Implement active supervision when responsible for non-instructional groups
  • Use strategies to assist in the development of social skills
  • Support individuals in following prescribed classroom routines
  • Record information in various formats
  • Assist in collecting and providing objective, accurate information
  • Facilitate the integration of individuals with exceptionalities into various settings
  • Use and maintain educational and assistive technology
  • Assist with personal care of individual students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Valid ISBE Paraprofessional approval or ISBE Teaching License
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and textbooks.
  • Ability to write reports and general correspondence.
  • Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals and groups of educators, administrators, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple facets of technology to enhance learning and instruction.
  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
