Duties

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and policies of the School District/Board
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of employee handbook.
  • Assist with recruitment plans, including writing and posting job announcements for all categories and levels of employees (attend job fairs and develop recruitment strategies to attract new staff as well as promote the district)
  • Oversees the onboarding for certified and classified staff
  • Maintains and updates all district job descriptions
  • Manages district vacancies, applications and job pools
  • Prepares new hire/status forms for all certified staff members
  • Provides proper screening for employee credentials (conducts reference checks)
  • Verify candidates' credentials including licensing and certification if required for the position. Perform or arrange for reference checks and background checks.
    • Assists with staffing projections and needs
    • Create systems to effectively/efficiently manage personnel files, documentation and procedures
  • Prepares correspondence for all new hires
  • Fields questions about compensation and job qualifications from potential employees and current employees
  • Keep the staff directory and organizational charts up to date
  • Maintain personnel records and reports, including teacher certifications, staff licensure, mandated trainings and professional development hours
  • Oversee hiring and exit interviews and procedures, including new employee orientation and the processing of initial and terminal paperwork
  • Serve as liaison between administrators, professional and support staff, and unions.
  • Manage systems that ensures compliance with mandated trainings by all staff (ensure employees follow policies and procedures)
    • Provides professional development that promotes employee support, effectiveness and accountability
    • Communicates the need for disciplinary actions to the Superintendent for documented violations regarding duties outlined in contracts, personnel misconduct and performance issues
    • Issue letters to personnel communicating areas of concern and violations with policies and expectations
    • Conduct investigatory meetings and interviews for personnel matters under review as needed
    • Assist in a management role for Sexual Harassment and Title IX Policies for the District
    • Provides professional development that promotes better district communication
    • Implements accountability systems for employees
    • Assist with and complete required State Reports (ISBE) for Personnel
    • Identifies opportunities for improvement in the areas of HR & Communications
    • Attend meetings with school superintendent, principals and other personnel
    • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills Required: Highly effective HR Directors have a strong understanding of policy and are excellent communicators and influencers. They are able to provide guidance on a range of HR issues and influence new ways of doing things to improve the organization's operations. They must be able to effectively facilitate change. Thus, this position requires superb written and verbal communication skills. It's important that this individual can accurately explain different policies and protocols to staff and new employees.
