Essential Functions:

  • Research, plan, direct and evaluate a strategic internal and external community relations program that supports the mission of the School Association for Special Education in DuPage with audience appropriate media messages and communication. 
  • Maintains master editorial calendar
  • Develop and distribute public information materials and media releases pertaining to school information and programs using various methods including social media.
  • Assist with photography of district students, personnel, and activities for publication.
  • Design and produce district print publications such as informational brochures, newsletters, postcards, flyers and invitations.
  • Maintain district website to keep the public informed of educational news, events and modern instructional practices in the district.
  • Maintain and support district social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook,Google+ and YouTube.
  • Maintain and support School Messenger emergency broadcast system and mobile app.
  • Monitor campus and district Google calendars for current, accurate information.
  • Coordinate interviews and compose special interest stories to be used in district publications, including district blog, and electronic newsletter
  • Develop and distribute bi-monthly district electronic newsletter to be distributed to both internal and external audiences.
  • Visit school sites regularly to monitor effectiveness of communication and public relations efforts and maintain positive relations with campus administration and staff.
  • Remain current and knowledgeable of trends in the fields of communication and education.
  • Administer the communications budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
  • Works in cooperation with district leadership in the planning, preparing, formatting, publishing and dissemination of district reports and other communications (e.g. district newsletters, annual reports, website, networking, mailings).
  • Provides support and direction to district departments and sites in the planning, preparing, formatting, publishing and dissemination of reports and other communications.
  • Develop and maintain crisis communication plans in coordination with designated local and state officials.
  • Facilitates the communication and dissemination of all surveys and feedback instruments. 
  • Develops materials relating to District communication policies, procedures, and programs as needed; communicates with parents, the public, District personnel, and members of the community orally and in writing
  • Prepares and distributes press releases and communications to staff, parents and community, and media
  • Provides training on customer service techniques to ensure employees maintain SASED’s positive public images.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of SASED opening day, orientation, recognition and celebration events. 



Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or equivalent work experience in the areas of communications and/or public relations. 
  • Professional experience in a full-time public relations position and experience with public schools preferred
  • Experience in marketing/advertising, print operations, publications management, website management, social media, digital communication.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Ability to respond to urgent/emergency communications needs after hours (school closing, etc)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Accreditation by National School Public Relations Association or Public relations Society of America -preferred
  • Bilingual-preferred
