Duties

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Chief DEI Officer will lead the district’s work to embed equity and culturally sustaining practices into every core district function, ensuring that all students have full and equitable access to the district’s programs and resources, and will lead the district’s efforts to engage students, families, and community members as true partners in the educational process.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Departments of Equity and Recruitment staff
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position. 

  1. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
  2. Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  4. Develops and oversees implementation of strategic plan; ensuring equity is woven throughout the process.
  5. Fosters, advocates, and leads the district with the District Equity Imperative as the guide
  6. Provide leadership, collaboration, and support to stakeholders to advance our organizational vision for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  7. Partner with district leadership teams to support schools in closing achievement gaps.
  8. Develops consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to ensure the District identifies, discusses, and addresses equity issues impacting students, schools, and staff.
  9. Oversees the districts recruitment efforts for both certified and non-certified staff.
  10. Works closely with Human Resources to ensure that equitable practices are embedded in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring processes for the district.
  11. Develops, facilitates, and supports professional development, in collaboration with various departments, to champion a positive culture and to build capacity for staff, specific to diversity, equity, inclusion.
  12. Serves on the Superintendent’s Cabinet
  13. Leads and facilitate the District Equity Systems Team.
  14. Partner with Chief of Communications and Superintendent to build and sustain District Listening System.

  7. Willingness to work flexible hours and schedules.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred.  Minimum of 5 years of experience in an educational setting. Knowledge of Rockford, IL preferred.
