Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Understand the underlying philosophy for an early childhood center that addresses the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of early childhood students.
  • Provide leadership to ensure understanding and promotion of the District’s strategic objectives and provide in-service programs for teachers and staff.
  • Keep abreast of developments and trends in early childhood curriculum and instruction, and provide leadership in determining program direction and improvement to curriculum and instruction at the building level.
  • Screen, select, direct and evaluate performance of certified and educational support staff.
  • Administer an articulated early childhood curriculum program; conduct regular needs assessments and interpret results to staff and community.
  • Applies knowledge and understanding that supports all staff in using data to drive instruction
  • Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
  • Communicate effectively with the business and residential community and participate in civic activities.
  • Motivate employee performance and enhance morale.
  • Maintain a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in District and site professional growth programs.
  • Understand the needs and requirements of special education and bilingual students.
  • Administer a balanced budget and operate a school using a collaborative management system.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude toward the job and remain a flexible and innovative team builder.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of District policies, Local policies, State and Federal laws relating to students and education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Special Education Rules and Regulations.
  • Provide leadership in the supervision and management of the site operations to assure safety and efficiency.
  • Coordinate the assignment of student teachers within the building including orientation of the student teachers, working with supervising teachers, and working with the university supervisors.
  • Manage certified and educational support staff contracts at site level.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

 

  • Must hold or be eligible for an Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
  • Certified in early childhood education preferred.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • Experience in special education preferred.

Salary/Benefits

The work year for this position is 12 months.  Salary for this position is regionally competitive.  Valley View offers excellent fringe benefits, including life, health and dental insurance.
