Duties
The teacher will be responsible for instructing students with a range of disabilities in a self contained learning environment at the middle school level. The teacher will be part of a special education team who collaborates with related service providers and general education teachers. He/she will be responsible for diagnostic assessment of learning environments, educational performance, and learning styles. The teacher should be able to modify and adapt the general education curriculum and use alternative curricula and resources as needed. As the case-manager for students, the teacher will collaborate with the team in support of students’ academic, social, emotional and functional goals, and also maintain strong communication and collaboration with parents and family. The teacher will also oversee instructional assistants and plan for their support of students in general education and special education classrooms.
Qualifications
a) Valid Illinois Professional Education License with Learning Behavior Specialist I Endorsement
b) A Master’s Degree is preferred
c) Successful Teaching experience with students with a multi-needs instructional classroom is preferred
d) Training in consultation/collaboration model with general education staff and curriculum
Salary/Benefits
BA, Step 1, $50,009 to MA+60, Step 25, $118,928. (Additional compensation may be available for stipend opportunities.) TRS Pension and sick leave. If selected, other benefits include medical, dental and life insurance, HSA, Roth, 403b and 457 investment options, flex spending, etc.
