Duties
SUMMARY
Family Educators will address gaps in opportunity and the COVID-19’s impact on interrupted learning by developing or expanding relationships between schools, community-based organizations, and mental health providers to benefit the wellbeing of children, parents, and school staff. Family Educators will provide in-home case management and group education to educate, support and strengthen the social and emotional skills of families and the community through research based curricula, and support community hubs consisting of area schools, students, Neighborhood Champions, local mental health providers, and additional community-based organizations.
DUTIES
- Conduct a needs assessment and work collaboratively with families to customize a plan that focuses on their individual family needs.
- Utilize an evidence based family support curriculum to work with families in home on increasing parenting skills, children’s social skills and family skills.
- Coordinate and present an evidence based family group curriculum to educate, support and strengthen the social and emotional skills of families and the community one time per month in each of the ROE #33 counties.
- Provide referrals to community-based organizations to help support social-emotional and mental health needs based on results of the initial needs assessment.
- Create a systems building approach to supporting families where partners connect and communicate in order to reach the best outcomes for families.
- Provide networking opportunities for community partners, parents/guardians, grandparents, caregivers, and neighborhood champions.
- Develop and promote a caring environment that provides efficient and effective services to families by working in partnership with the education system and service providing organizations.
- Provide support to families through referrals and linkage to programs identified through the collaboration ensuring that the family is matched with appropriate resources and comprehensive services that address the whole child.
- Build meaningful partnerships to address family needs in order to help them function better at home, in school, in the community, and throughout life.
- Increase the effectiveness of communication between schools, providers, and families by bridging the family/school/community gap.
- Support community hubs consisting of area schools, students, Neighborhood Champions, local mental health providers, and additional community-based organizations.
- Maintain a caseload of approximately 20 families within the ROE #33 region.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and seminars for professional development.
- Maintain case management records, provide grant data and documentation, and other reporting and data collection as needed for the program
- Participate in professional development as needed for this position and curriculum
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical behavior
- Serve as a liaison and representative of ROE 33 on inter/intra-office committees for the development of aligned and coordinated services/programs
- Uphold the Vision and Mission of the Regional Office of Education #33
- Maintain a turnover file outlining the day to day activities of this position
- Participate and regularly attend at least one ROE #33 Committee
- May be required to perform other tasks as assigned by the Regional Superintendent or supervisor.
