Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Schedule, plan and instruct students on District and state approved curriculum in self-contained classrooms and in small group settings.
  2. Provide systematic instruction by teaching the lessons in English and Spanish as appropriate to meet student needs.
  3. Interact with students by speaking fluently and precisely, modeling good language and vocabulary usage in English and Spanish.
  4. Set high expectations for students and hold students accountable for their academic work.
  5. Construct and conduct assessments to evaluate progress.
  6. Monitor and review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth. Monitor own instructional effectiveness.
  7. Communicate both verbally and in writing with parents and students on progress. Encourage parent involvement in monitoring student progress.
  8. Collaborate with other grade level and specials teachers to plan, accommodate, implement, and assess lessons and progress.
  9. Consult, provide advice and in-service to staff on issues relating to Bilingual education.
  10. Actively participate on various building and District teams or committees. Provide feedback and act as liaison to other building staff.
  11. Enforce and support school policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
  12. Collaborate with other staff in planning, enhancing, and implementing curriculum and school objectives.
  13. Participate in staff development and school improvement activities to maintain

professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.

  1. Maintain accurate and current records required by state and federal requirements.
  2. Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Act as role model on appropriate behaviors ensuring social and emotional development is progressing normally.
  3. Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled workday such as orientation, open houses or conferences.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree Required

Must hold a Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License (PEL) with Endorsement in Bilingual Education in Spanish
