Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide individual or group social work services to eligible EMSD students
  • To evaluate students for special educational programs/placements
  • To schedule and participate in regular Intake/Preliminary meetings, Indistrict Staffings and Annual reviews, as necessary
  • To consult with special education teachers to assist in special education program development
  • To consult with parents of children who are receiving special education services and those whose children are being considered for placement
  • To evaluate students for potential school social work services
  • To complete social developmental studies on students referred for case study evaluations and re-evaluations 
  • To participate in the identification, evaluation and solution of school problems
  • To participate in Response to Intervention building and district needs
  • To consult with classroom teachers to help them better understand and work with particular students or manage particular classes of students
  • To consult with District #37 administrators as needed
  • To be on call to provide crisis intervention to students
  • To act as a liaison between District #37 schools, families, and community agencies
  • To work with non-educational specialists (physicians, clinical psychologists, etc.) for the enhancement of the educational process of District #37 students
  • To supervise school social work interns
  • To organize and/or participate in inservice training programs
  • To communicate as necessary with the Superintendent, the Associate Superintendent for Exceptional Programs and administration 
  • To practice professional renewal by participating in social work organizations and attending conferences
  • To perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned
  • Supports the East Moline School District #37 and imparts a positive image of the District within the schools and community


Qualification Requirements:  

  • Illinois Professional Educator License, (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), endorsed for School Social Worker
  • Must be skilled at working in a team atmosphere  This person will have responsibilities within the building as part of a Professional Learning Community
  • Must be adept at building relationships and maintaining high academic and behavioral standards for all students
  • Possess competence in computer skills and use of other educational technology such as, but not limited to, Smartboards, iPads, etc.
  • Must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and families, to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential


Salary and work year as determined by the Board of Education, East Moline School District #37 Board Policy, and applicable collective bargaining agreement
