Duties
POSITION GOAL(S):
Responsible for the efficient planning, budgeting, and execution of the Department of Information Services (IS). Provides visionary leadership in the development of technology strategies that ensure current information systems support and anticipate future District needs. The director will lead the department’s short and long-range planning in collaboration with Curriculum and Instruction to maximize technology and business systems in alignment with the instructional mission. Supervises the network engineers, programmers, and database administrators that manage the day-to-day support needs for the district’s business systems, as well as the educational and student systems. Provides equipment, and the guidance, and support for all end users. In addition, the director will provide innovative and empowering solutions to department staff that expands individual skill sets and capacity, ensuring preparedness to meet the future demands of technology in education. The director will interface with designated outside service providers and represent the district at appropriate local, state, and national functions as assigned. Some evenings to attend Board of Education meetings (required).
JOB DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plan and direct the information services activities for School District U-46. Establish consistent operational controls/practices for the department, including, WAN infrastructure, voice and video networks, internet access to include internet filtering, and e-mail
- Formulate short and long-term strategic plans to identify resources and costs needed to meet the needs of the district.

- Provide data-driven analysis, documenting the functionality and operational Information System efficiencies for user departments, as requested and/or
- Evaluate the alignment of new technical advancements in consideration of the plans and objectives of the school
- Provide regular administrative and research-based technical support for curriculum and instructional technology components including, related staff
- In partnership with Curriculum and Instruction, support technology integration curricular resources and initiatives districtwide.
- Collaborate with other departments to support best practices related to technology.
- Develop specifications and/or scope of work to meet district procurement requirements in the acquisition of hardware, software, telecommunications, and overall school improvement program.
- Responsible for all purchasing, receiving, and installation of hardware and software for the district’s instructional technology program, evaluating programs annually, to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Prepare and administer departmental budgets, and cost projections, based on documented program needs and funding options in alignment with the mission of the school
