Duties
In the absence of a full-time classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction and manages the learning environment. In short-term situations, the substitute teacher is responsible for following the lesson that has been planned by the teacher. In long-term situations, the substitute is responsible for planning for daily instruction, assessing students, grading, and communicating with families. If a teacher is absent for an extended period of time, the substitute may be provided with a detailed plan from the teacher that will guide them in terms of the content and skills that will need to be taught. In all situations, the substitute maintains a positive learning environment, takes student attendance, monitors student behavior, and ensures that the classroom is clean and safe. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, instructional settings are fluid. Possible settings include remote, hybrid, and full in-person learning. The District will provide training on remote learning structures, Google Meets and Google Classroom for all new substitute teachers.
