Duties
Special Education Paraprofessionals support high school students (up to age 21) with disabilities under the direction of a certificated special education teacher by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; following educational and specific behavioral plans; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs. Assist with maintaining accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and grades. Assist with monitoring/charting behavioral and instructional progress for the students; assist with maintaining behavioral management system for students; assist with establishing a varied environment which accommodates the differing ways that students learn. Work collaboratively with others to provide support to all students. Employees in this classification may receive a variety of assignments including classroom support, one-on-one, etc.
Qualifications
Must hold a Paraprofessional License or obtain a Paraprofessional License (requirements include: passing the Parapro Test -OR- completion of 60 hours of college coursework needed to apply for licensure). CPI certification is beneficial. Excellent Communication Skills, experience working with diverse populations. An understanding and a commitment to the philosophy that all students can be successful. Ability to build rapport with students, staff, parents and community members.
