Duties
Student Support: Instructs incoming student teachers on the policies and procedures of clinical aspect of the TEP program. Guides students and clinical faculty in understanding and interpreting the expectations and requirements of the clinical experience. Monitors student teachers’ clinical progress with bi-weekly evaluations and contacts students providing positive and negative feedback. Collects and monitors student teachers’ and clinical faculty members’ preclinical and clinical documentation to assess student performance. Participates in support meetings for struggling students, and visits student teachers in their clinical settings to provide additional support and feedback when necessary. (30%)
Program Support: Oversees and develops online and face-to-face Orientation to Student Teaching. Maintains, updates, and edits the Student Teaching Handbook and electronic support resources.
Analyzes/provides clinical practice data to finalize completion of clinical practice and to the Department Personnel Committee for consideration and program reporting purposes and to satisfy licensure requirements. (25%)
Relationships with External Parties: Responsible for collaborating with school district personnel to assess the appropriate placement for student teachers while also maintaining positive, professional relationships. Recruits, screens, makes hiring recommendations, and trains cooperating teachers in K-12 school settings and university supervisors, in order to meet Illinois State Board of Education approval requirements and remain up to date regarding professional requirements for preservice teachers. Works with the Dean’s office to ensure affiliation agreements with school districts are current and reflect University policy. (25%)
Resource and Retention: Oversees the Field Experience and Student Teaching application process by procuring and analyzing placement needs from students. Collects and analyzes student data to assist in developing program policies and procedures. Fosters and maintains the “Community of Learners” concept and practice as a foundation of TEP for enrolled students. (15%)
Participation: Participate in Teacher Education meetings and initiatives. Represent the College and program in meetings or at special educational events as directed by the Dean of the College. (5%)
