Duties
Summary:
The Principal is the administrator and educational leader of the school and is responsible for all matters concerning the school. The Principal is responsible for administering and supervising staff responsibilities and operations of the building in all phases of the school year. The Principal is responsible for matters concerning teachers, students, educational programs, instruction, supplies and equipment, and any other matters that affect the school. The principal shall focus on staff development through formal and informal activities, establish clear communication regarding school goals, practices and policies with students, parents and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
- Promotes the success of all students by advocating, nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
- Upholds the success of all students by ensuring management of the school, operations and resources for a safe, efficient and effective learning environment.
- Collaborates with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
- Responsible for the overall directions, coordination, and evaluation of the school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Districts policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Other duties include appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees and students and addressing complaints.
- Acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.
- Supervises full and part time building staff and Assistant Principal.
- Supervises development and improvement of the instructional programs.
- Responsible for providing the necessary tools and strategies for teachers to be successful through in-service training, coaching and mentoring, and by example.
- Screens and interview candidates to make employment recommendations to the Director of Human resources.
- Observing, counseling, and motivating professional staff towards performances to attain the educational goals for the District.
- Continually evaluating existing programs and practices, curriculum content, and pilot programs.
- Maintaining a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize school and classroom interruptions.
- Identifying intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs affecting students’ success in school, and taking steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and special education personnel.
- Plans and organizes the use of the school facility in the best interest of the students and the community.
- Having school records available and up to date for ready reference and reporting.
- Review, authorize, or disapprove authorizing all professional staff requests for instructional materials and equipment within the approved budget.
- Becomes knowledgeable of the provisions of collective bargaining agreements affiliated with the District.
- Directs and ensures supervision of all extra-curricular activities and evaluates the performance of all staff assigned under direct supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services.
Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:
- Master’s degree and Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
- Five years of teaching experience preferred.
- Two years of administrative experience required.
- Proven ability to mentor and lead staff.
- Experience in providing curriculum leadership and innovation.
- Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in demanding situations.
Additional Notes
Chauncey Duker Elementary School educates approximately 440 students from fourth through fifth grade.
