Duties

District 158 is seeking a paraprofessional to provide supplemental support to classroom teachers Qualified candidates excited about joining a progressive educational team in an elementary school and dedicated to providing positive reinforcement and continuous improvement to Lansing #158 students should contact us.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The list below is meant to be illustrative, rather than inclusive.  Accordingly, the list is not meant to be restrictive on the work which can be assigned the employee.

  • Under the supervision of the licensed teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
  • Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Uses the computer to facilitate reinforcement of classroom instruction.
  • Assists individual children in need of special attention, including riding of school buses to assist with supervision of students.
  • Performs clerical duties.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
  • Assists teachers with non-instructional duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work.
  • Assists with reading and storytelling.
  • Assists small groups of students in the library.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal, recess, and lunch periods, and on field trips.
  • Supervises lunchroom and/or playground activities during the lunch periods.
  • Participates in in-service training programs.
  • Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the principal or his/her designee.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
