To manage and supervise all aspects of the District’s Transportation Department ensuring that each student, through safe and efficient transportation, can take full advantage of the curricular and extracurricular activities offered by Champaign Unit 4 Schools, while ensuring that services are presented in a manner supportive of students and families.



  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, management, and customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets, and ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, Transfinder, Zonar, School Messenger, and TimeClock Plus
  • Previous successful experience in the field of school transportation (strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (preferred)
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a "Class B" CDL license and a school bus driver permit (preferred)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable


  • The entry level base salary for this position is expected to be approximately $91,000, plus full Board-paid IMRF and other highly competitive benefits   Additional compensation is offered based on previous successful supervisory/administrative experience.

Additional Notes

Currently located at 140 Hagen Drive in Champaign, the Transportation Department is an in-house, full service department that employs approximately 130 staff members including Office Staff, Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors, Mechanics, Dispatchers, a Safety Officer, and Substitute Staff. The Department is responsible for the safe coordination of 50+ regular bus routes using its fleet of approximately 70 buses. The Department also oversees the assignment of “extra duty” trips throughout the school day and school year, including Summer School. Additionally, the department works closely with the local Mass Transit District (MTD) and charter companies for the expanded transportation of Unit 4 students. Future facility plans include relocating to a larger building and grounds site near the current facility.
