Duties

Position:

 

The Primary Classroom Specialist will provide overall support for Tier I (core) math and literacy instruction with an emphasis on the small-group, targeted, Tier II instruction. The Primary Classroom Specialist will collaborate with primary teachers, interventionists, and instructional coaches to ensure students reach grade-level mastery of Illinois Learning Standards.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaborate with assigned classroom teachers to provide high-quality differentiated instruction aligned to the D300 curriculum that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the identified students.
  • Use student performance data to tailor and differentiate small group instruction and promote, monitor, and maintain the fidelity of small group instruction.
  • Use a variety of assessments to measure student learning and drive instruction.
  • Assist teachers to diagnose skill-based strengths and weaknesses and match the skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies consistent with Illinois Learning Standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of language strategies to develop oracy and vocabulary skills. 
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Attend team/parent meetings as required in order to provide input to teams regarding student academic strengths and weaknesses.
  • Effectively communicate student progress to parents on a consistent basis.
  • Actively participate in a professional learning community.
  • Attend district-level meetings.
  • Participate in screening and diagnostic activities and assist with the analysis of the data to identify students in need of MTSS services.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of Community Unit School District 300 along with state and federal regulations pertaining to Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and IDEA.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities, as may be assigned by the building principal and/or district leadership. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Valid Illinois Teaching License. Preferred certification in K-8 elementary or Early Childhood
  • Primary teaching experience preferred
  • ESL Endorsement preferred

 

Knowledge/Skills:

 

  • Thorough understanding of Illinois Learning Standards
  • Thorough understanding of the developmental progression of children’s literacy and math skills
  • Extensive knowledge of literacy and math tier II strategies 
  • Extensive knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
  • Understanding of formative assessment and targeted reteach and/or enrich practices 
  • Skill in collecting, interpreting, and communicating data to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrate knowledge of intervention instructional strategies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students 
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
