Duties
Key Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership
- Assist in the planning and facilitating of regular worship services, retreats, and prayer gatherings for students and faculty.
- Sustain and grow a comprehensive theology curriculum for students, aligned with the school's Catholic identity
- Ensure alignment with charism of Blessed Edmund Rice
- Teach theology classes, covering topics like scripture study, church history, Christian ethics, and contemporary issues.
- Integrate Catholic identity and theological concepts into other school activities and events.
- Student Engagement:
- Assist with the recruiting of student leaders for campus ministry initiatives.
- Assist with the recruiting of student leaders for advocacy projects.
- Organize service learning opportunities and community outreach programs.
- Coordinate social events and activities that promote spiritual growth and fellowship among students.
- Faculty and Staff Relations:
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate faith-based values into the school culture.
- Provide spiritual support and guidance to faculty and staff members.
- Facilitate faculty and staff prayer or reflection sessions.
- Organize parent education workshops on faith development and family spirituality.
- Maintain open communication with parents regarding campus ministry activities and student spiritual growth.
- Assist the Campus Minister and Advocacy Director in managing the budget and resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local religious leaders and community organizations.
- Coordinate with school administration to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Theology, Religious Studies; Masters preferred
- Deep understanding of Christian theology and scripture
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with students, faculty, and parents
- Experience working with adolescents
- Passion for fostering spiritual growth and discipleship in young people
- Ability to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students
Qualifications
Appropriate Illinois state teaching licensure and endorsements are required.
Salary/Benefits
Salary and benefits are in accordance to the Brother Rice salary scale.
Additional Notes
The position of Director of Spiritual Life would be full time. The position would require classroom teaching, and a willingness to collaborate with the Advocacy Director, Campus Minister, and School Chaplain on Catholic Identity and Mission. An understanding of the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education would be necessary. The candidate should be a practicing Catholic.
