Duties

  • Examines school buildings and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Direct daily and routine maintenance operations for school buildings and grounds.
  • Conduct preventative inspections of grounds, systems, equipment, while identifying and repairing deficiencies. 
  • Establishes and recommends priorities in conjunction with the Superintendent on repair projects.
  • Estimates cost of repair projects in terms of labor, materials, and overhead when necessary.
  • Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems.
  • Prepares reports on costs of work done, materials used, labor expended.
  • Recommends materials as needed, makes recommendations for purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Consults with principals and the superintendent regarding the establishment of regular preventative maintenance programs.
  • Maintains required records for local and state reporting needs.
  • Recruits, screens, and recommends for hiring in cooperation with the superintendent of schools, and trains all personnel necessary for the custodial staff.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises all maintenance personnel and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, or release to the Superintendent. 
  • Is responsible for checking with the superintendent on all issues dealing with federal and state law, local policy, and litigation if the supervisor has questions in these areas.
  • Prepares summer maintenance schedule in conjunction with the superintendent.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to provide an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • All other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with school personnel and the public as a school leader.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Skilled in electrial, mechanical, HVAC, and grounds keeping
State of Illinois Pesticide Operators License Certified, or ability to be certified within six months of hire.
Valid driver's license.
Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.
