  1. Provide leadership in ongoing technology plan implementation and in the direction and evaluation of the Technology Department personnel and related staff.
  2. Plan, conduct, and evaluate training and professional development activities to introduce staff to appropriated hardware and software. 
  3. Provide support to teachers at the classroom, building, and district level to increase knowledge of, and level of comfort with, technology and its integration into the curriculum.
  4. Develop guides and instructional manuals for commonly used software and programs.
  5. Assist Administrators in assessing building technology needs and exploring ways in which technology can help meet and support those identified needs.
  6. Train certified and noncertified staff in the use of computers to help manage student assessments and support data driven decision making.
  7. Develop, oversee and update a written strategic plan for the cohesive operations of the Technology Department, including a detailed, written disaster recovery plan.
  8. Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and the District Curriculum Committee with curriculum development, including integrating technology into the curriculum and providing software to support curricular goals.
  9. Promote appropriate ethical conduct of students, staff, and the community in using District information technology resources, and implement district policies related to copyright laws and acceptable use standards. 
  10. Work with the Director of Special Education to provide appropriate assistive technology to students with special education needs.
  11. Research, recommend, and coordinate purchasing of district level hardware and software.
  12. Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting district-level hardware, software and network/server systems, including email, LAN/WAN infrastructure, routers, switches, hubs, network connections and internet access.
  13. Oversee management of software licensing, data backup, content filtering, firewall protection and virus protection.
  14. Pursue technology related funding resources available through federal, state, and local grants, including managing the Federal E-Rate Technology Reimbursement Program.
  15. Maintains data integrity and support for various programs such as Skyward, I-Visions, Celeretime, AESOP, VersaTran, Windsor and Renaissance, for example.
  16. Participate in recruitment, selection, and supervision of Technology Department staff, Learning Resource Center Teachers, and Instructional Technology Specialist Teachers in accordance with established District procedures.
  17. Oversees the purchase, inventory and upkeep of handhelds, including cell phones.
  18. Oversees the technology and data services budgets.
  19. Provides assistance to the Director of Buildings and Grounds related to the networking and operation of Building HVAC and Security Systems.
  20. Coordinates the implementation and training for new initiatives requiring technology use (hardware, software and networking).
  21. Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction or the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, as well as supporting the Level 1 and 2 Technicians, and Network Support Specialist.


  1. Qualification as set by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois School Code.
  2. Professional Educator License (PEL) preferred but not required.
  3. Knowledgeable of technology and computer network systems.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
