Duties

Provide support and assistance to classroom teachers in the full and skillful implementation of the district's adopted core and intervention programs and practices.
Model research based best practices and team teach as appropriate to support individuals or groups of students in learning or transferring effective strategies.
Coordinate and provide PD opportunities, and other learning opportunities for teachers and staff as assigned by the Director.
Conduct professional development through D300 Universities and D300 Institute Days.
Collaborate with teachers to emphasize collaborative dialogue and training on instructional practices that supports student achievement and progress in literacy.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
Helps locate, recommend and promote district-approved materials to improve literacy instruction.
Participates in discussion or activities focused on using research to improve literacy instruction.
Provides continuous and systematic procedures and opportunities for professional growth for classroom teachers.
Consults frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to literacy instruction.
Orients beginning literacy teachers to the philosophy, procedures and materials for the district literacy program.
Use student growth measures to assist classroom teachers in making decisions to improve instructional practices and interventions.
Participate in PLC and data reviews concerning academic progress for all students.
Attend meetings and training as needed for the position.
Work with the team and Director on curriculum enhancements as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Literacy.

Qualifications

Appropriate and valid Illinois Licensure.
Reading Specialist Endorsement/Reading Teacher Endorsement preferred.
Teaching experience preferred.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of ELA standards, curriculum design, literacy instructional and intervention strategies.
Strong leadership, coaching, writing and presentation skills.
Skill in collecting, interpreting, and communicating data to a variety of audiences.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software.
Possess excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work closely with other staff members.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).

Additional Notes

Support all aspects of curriculum and instruction. This position will support multiple D300 schools. To promote professional growth of staff and to help students master literacy skills. To work as part of the district literacy team to promote best practices in literacy instruction.  Qualified candidates will document coaching progress/activities/outcomes; develop lesson plans; model the necessary skills to perform assignments; provide a safe and positive environment; and provide feedback to colleagues and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
