Duties

Position Expectations 

  • Support an environment that carries out the established mission and vision of the program focused on meeting the social and emotional, behavioral, academic and vocational growth for all students.
  • Implement the implementation of the Regional Alternative Schools Strategic Plan
  • Collaborate with the leadership team
  • Evaluate teaching and support staff teams
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on program budget with support from the business department
  • Communicate daily with staff
  • Develop and maintain effective communication structures with partner district/school administrators

Qualifications

Current Illinois PEL License-General Administrative Endorsement preferred

Proven Leadership Experience in middle and high school settings

Experience working with at risk youth

Experience working in an alternative learning environment preferred

Experience with diverse student needs (special education, mental health, trauma, behavior)

Passed or successfully pass (prior to start date) evaluation courses to be certified as a qualified evaluator

Salary/Benefits

Salary range $80,000-$95,000- 220 day contract

Program Overview

The Regional Office of Education has the opportunity to serve students from 13 school districts from Boone and Winnebago County in need of alternative education opportunities. Students are referred to the programs for a variety of reasons but will be met with a caring and dedicated staff focused on meeting both their social and emotional and academic needs through a trauma informed lens. The mission of Summit Academy is two-fold: to restore and graduate students. Our mission is personalized for each student through an individualized student success plan.

Whether a student spends 6 months with us for 2 years, our only goal is to support them as they learn and grow and transition back to their sending school or graduate into their next phase of adulthood. The Regional Director of Alternative Schools will lead a team of administrators, teachers, support staff and wellness personnel. The program consists of a Regional Safe School Program serving up to 200 students in grades 6-12 that have been expelled or are having their expulsion held in abeyance. Summit Academy program also provides an Alternative Learning Opportunity Program serving up to 200 students in grades 9-12 that are credit deficient, truant, and may have minor behavior concerns.
