  • Certification required by State. To hold a current Teaching Position
  • Prior teaching experience.                                                                        
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB CLASSIFICATION:   Teaching Personnel

REPORTS TO:                     Building Principal                                                                                                               

SUPERVISES:                     Students, Student Aides, Volunteer Assigned, Student Teachers

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As per contract with the board. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meetings the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in projects and ability to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Accommodates the learning disabilities of students, by seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher’s aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with other teachers in the department, evaluates their job performance.
  • Serves as a role model for students.
  • Accepts his/her fair share of supervisory duties of pupil activities in buildings and on grounds during school hours as well as other school-sponsored activities.
  • Treats all students fairly with no favoritism shown due to gender, race, or intellectual ability.
  • Treats students with respect and develops a positive relationship with each student.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Teaching Staff Personnel. 

In the performance of essential job functions of this position, the individual may:

  • Occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasionally may come in contact with unruly students and/or adults.

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain License in the State of Illinois.
