Dean of Students (PK-3)
Norwood Elementary School District 63 is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Dean of Students for Norwood Primary School (PK-3). The Dean of Students will play a critical role in fostering a positive school climate and culture while supporting student behavior, attendance, social-emotional development, and strong relationships among students, staff, and families.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Principal, teachers, support staff, and families to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where all students can thrive. This individual must be skilled in implementing proactive behavior supports, building positive relationships, and communicating effectively with families and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote and support a positive school climate and culture that emphasizes respect, responsibility, safety, and student success.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to foster a welcoming and supportive school environment.
- Serve as the primary administrative contact for student behavior, classroom management support, attendance interventions, and student conduct matters.
- Develop, implement, and monitor behavior intervention systems and supports aligned with the District’s expectations and MTSS framework.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to address behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance concerns through proactive interventions and problem-solving.
- Lead restorative practices and other evidence-based approaches that promote positive student behavior and relationship building.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding student behavior, attendance, and academic concerns.
- Collaborate with school teams, including MTSS and Problem-Solving Teams, to identify and support students requiring additional interventions.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of Section 504 Plans.
- Support school safety initiatives and communicate regularly with school and district administration regarding student discipline, safety, and security matters.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to student behavior, attendance, and interventions.
- Participate in district leadership meetings, professional development opportunities, and other meetings as assigned.
- Assume responsibility for school operations in the absence of the Principal.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student, staff, and district matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
