Duties
Maintenance and Custodian Worker PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times. 2. Regulates, heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity. 3. Shovels, plows and salts walks and steps as appropriate. 4. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. 5. Sweeps/vacuums classrooms and dusts furniture daily. 6. Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when conditions require it. 7. Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily; cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. 8. Washes all windows, both inside and outside, as needed. 9. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. 10. Performs such yard keeping chores as is necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition. 11. Keeps all floors in a clean, attractive condition, and in good state of preservation. 12. Makes minor building repairs as he/she is capable of doing. 13. Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator. 14. May be required to maintain a schedule of all motors and other mechanical equipment that require regular servicing. 15. Immediately reports any damage to school property. 16. Remains on school premises during school hours and also during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required. 17. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. 18. Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties. 19. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair. 20. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities. 21. Complies with local laws and procedure for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste. 22. May be required to conduct periodic inspections and testing of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition. 23. Performs yearly inspections with Boiler Company, Alarm Company, Sprinkler Company, Life Safety (State), Fire Marshall and Insurance Company. 24. Performs yearly certification required: Fire Extinguishers, Elevators, Boilers, and Sprinklers. 25. Maintains a positive, professional relationship with staff members. 26. May be required to return to school after hours for emergency calls including alarm. This will be assigned by maintenance supervisor. (see contract for compensation information) 27. Performs Grounds Maintenance duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils. Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions. Ability lift 60 lbs, carry 35 lbs, and to push/pull 60 pounds and demonstrate sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity required to perform all essential tasks. Reports to: Superintendent
Salary/Benefits
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and BESPA.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated each year
