This full-time position will serve as a paraprofessional for students in an alternative learning environment in Flanagan, IL. This position also has shared oversight of student lunch periods and bus arrival and dismissal.

Seeking innovative, creative, and student-centered individuals to provide to meet the unique educational needs of students with disabilities, and/or other specialized needs, evaluates and assesses progress, in accordance with student’s IEP and/or individualized plans, in a variety of settings.  This individual will be supervised by a lead teacher and/or program administrator for their own classroom and is responsible for implementing the assigned classroom program.


  • Commitment to Trauma Responsive Education Environment:  Demonstrates competence and understanding and commitment to trauma-informed practices and trauma-responsive education.  Remains dedicated to ensuring the learning environment is an inclusive, safe, and calming environment for all.  Works to establish and maintain healthy communication and partnerships with students, colleagues, and families.

  • Social-Emotional Education:  Implements social skills training embedded in academic instruction, paired with tenets of SEL which meet ISBE standards but also help students flourish in interactions with others and navigate their own emotions and needs.
  • Interdisciplinary Team Structure: Works collaboratively with other paraprofessionals, teachers, case managers, clinicians and administrators to partner with students and their families to treatment plan for academics and services for the student and/or their families.  Attends meetings as assigned. Collaborates with regard to classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, or other instructional interventions that may be needed with regard to any student and the team.
  • Professional Development:  Dedication to personal and professional growth through ongoing professional development including, but not limited to book studies, school or regional trainings, seminars, workshops, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

  • Documentation:  Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy.

  • Motivation:  Strives to help students identify their internal strengths, interests and motivation while maintaining a classroom environment supportive of same.  


ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) for Paraprofessioal or Substitute required. Experience with students with social-emotional needs and disabilities preferred but not required.  Ability to build relationships with students and colleagues to work collaboratively for student success.  Must be able to demonstrate competence in trauma-informed practices.


Hourly rate will be commensurate with other similar positions both locally and within ROE #17.  Start date may be as soon as March 1, 2024 or an agreed upon date, pending background checks.
