Duties

  • Maintain and monitor a system for collecting and reviewing data on students considered for special education programs/services and district intervention services.
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of early childhood screening, referrals, programs, and services (including preschool services).
  • Attend building meetings when available upon request.
  • Implement procedures to assure appropriate completion of Case Study Evaluations/Re-evaluations. Coordinate the nurse, social worker, and psychologist regarding component completion.
  • Implement procedures for multi-disciplinary staff conferences, IEP conferences, and other appropriate meetings.
  • Attend, chair, and record at case study evaluation staffing, assuring compliance with IDEA and that IEPs are written and designed to meet student needs.
  • Coordinate the placement of students in self-contained instructional programs, resource, inclusionary, speech/language, and private placements. Provide technical assistance regarding decisions on intake, change of program, or termination in accordance with adopted criteria and procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Northwestern Illinois Association (NIA) and coordinate referrals to these and other agencies.
  • Attend all out-of-district special education MDCs and IEP meetings as the LEA representative.
  • Coordinate home/hospital tutoring arrangements, payments, and reimbursement processing.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate a sequential services, programs, and curriculum continuum. Assist in the selection of appropriate supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Serve as the District's 504 Coordinator and liaison for homeless children.
  • DCFS Liaison.
  • Establish and supervise transportation services for students with special needs.
  • Provide analysis of program needs, enrollment trends, incidence rates, and instructional design to district administration, i.e., needs assessment.
  • Coordinate regular meetings involving district special education staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of the special education budget.
  • Maintain attendance records for out-of-district placements.
  • Prepare reimbursement forms, FACT forms, pre-approval forms, forms to facilitate cash flow, and other necessary forms.
  • Arrange extended school year opportunities and related transportation.
  • Assist in planning and conducting in-service in relation to or affecting special education programs.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and recommend the employment, termination, and assignment of special education instructional assistants in conjunction with the building principals.
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and physicians.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Special Education (LBS1 endorsement)
  • Experience working with special education students/teachers
  • Illinois general administrative certificate (preferred)
  • Director of Special Education endorsement (preferred)
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of special education programs and services
  • Foundational knowledge of 504s
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel and budget
